Old Amersham Hotels save jewel in “The Crown”

The Crown, Old Amersham, interiorThe picturesque countryside town of Old Amersham is enjoying a period of good fortune – as a team of community-focused business people have just purchased a second hotel property in the town – the local landmark, The Crown Hotel.

Having bought the Kings Arms Hotel in November 2012, the Old Amersham Hotels investment group has now saved The Crown Hotel from the threat of closure after it was taken over by administrators in Autumn 2012.

Famous nationwide for its role in 90’s rom-com, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Crown is a stylish 38-room boutique hotel, with a traditional bar and award winning restaurant.

Old Amersham Hotels recognised that under the right ownership and management it would be easy to re-establish the property as a thriving dining destination, leisure venue and business meeting place.  It will also provide the perfect companion to their existing Old Amersham hotel and restaurant business – the Kings Arms – by catering for a slightly different customer base (more details of which are due to be announced shortly).

Old Amersham Hotels has also expressed a commitment to work closely with local residents and businesses to ensure that any changes to these historic landmarks are sympathetic.  They told YOU FOOD that their plan is create two complementary businesses, each focusing on quality food and service to meet the needs of local people and visitors – whilst generating a vibrant “buzz” within the community.

Peter St Lawrence of Old Amersham Hotels comments, “We are very excited by this second purchase for the group.  The Crown has a strong local reputation, but has been through difficult times with the administration. We recognised an opportunity to revitalise The Crown to enable it to regain a firm foothold in the leisure market, whilst ensuring that the unique stylish interior and boutique-feel is maintained.“

“We have an excellent and experienced chef to run the restaurant and kitchen, and we can confirm that there will continue to be a focus on local, quality and fresh ingredients to ensure food of the very highest standards.”

In additional to its 38 rooms, large dining room and picturesque garden, the Crown Hotel offers conference facilities with space for 90 seated delegates. With its prime location and the character of its 16th century Grade II listed building, it provides the ideal venue for conferences, romantic getaways and social gatherings.

Both the Kings Arms Hotel and The Crown Hotel are freehold properties – and it was the desire to run a freehold hotel business that led the group to make the purchases,  following the successful involvement (by three of the Old Amersham Hotels investors) in the leasehold pub, restaurant and hotel – The Greyhound Inn, Chalfont St Peter.
